Academic Programs
Lake-Sumter State College offers a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of the communities of Lake and Sumter Counties.
The College offers a baccalaureate degree in Leadership that prepares each student for career advancement within any type of organization. Baccalaureate courses are offered in such a way as to accommodate the schedule of a student who works full-time. The College also offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN to BSN, degree and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
The Associate in Arts (AA) degree is the most popular degree program, preparing students for transfer to a baccalaureate program. Lake-Sumter State College has organized the AA degree into concentrations to help students successfully complete the courses required for transfer.
The Associate in Science (AS) degrees are specialized programs that prepare each student to enter into a career after approximately two years of college. These programs require fewer general education courses, which provides for more instruction in the major field. Associate in Science programs do not have guaranteed transfer to universities; however, many AS programs will transfer into Lake-Sumter State College's Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership.
A number of college credit certificates are also available and provide targeted skills or knowledge within a college credential. Technical certificates are embedded in AS programs, enabling the student to earn the certificate while also meeting requirements of the AS degree.
