Associate in Science Programs

Associate in Science Degrees (A.S.)  are the career education and transfer degrees of Florida College System institutions. This two-year degree is intended to prepare students for immediate entry into the workforce and some programs can lead to transfer to a higher degree in that same field in the State College & University System. Each program contains at least 15 college credit hours in General Education.

For degree and certificate completion, at least 25 percent of credit hours for the program must be earned through instruction at LSSC. All A.S. degree seeking students must take a minimum of 15-18 semester hours in General Education - at least one course from each of the following areas:

  • Humanities/Fine Arts,
  • Social/Behavioral Sciences,
  • Natural Sciences and/or
  • Mathematics.

Credits earned in Gordon Rule writing courses (designated with the code GRW) or Mathematics courses covered by State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.030 (Gordon Rule) may be used to fulfill graduation requirements only if a grade of “C” or higher is attained.

Job Placement Rates

Florida Statute, 1008.42(2), requires that each college publish, in its annual catalog, the placement rate for the preceding three years for each career certificate program and for each career degree program.
