NUR 1006C  Professional Transition/Chronic Care Management  (4 Credits )  
Contrasts theoretical concepts and psychomotor skills of nursing practice to LPN or Paramedic practice. Students integrate nursing theory; professional standards; legal and practice issues; communication; collaboration; critical thinking; and integrative health principles. Addresses physiological, psychological, ethical, cultural and developmental health issues to manage care of diverse clients with chronic illness across the lifespan. Topics include gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurologic, musculoskeletal, respiratory, renal, cardiovascular, reproductive, and hematology/immunology systems.
NUR 1021C  Nursing Foundations  (12 Credits )  
Students learn foundational nursing knowledge, application of the nursing process, core scientific principles, attitudes, values and psychomotor nursing skills to promote health and wellness across the lifespan. Students use foundational nursing knowledge and core scientific principles to demonstrate psychomotor skills. Skills include, but are not limited to, physical assessment, health history inventory, documentation, medication administration, asepsis, wound care, interpretation of lab values, and disaster preparedness. Students apply skills related to Nursing Foundation concepts in clinical, laboratory, and/or simulation settings.
NUR 1052C  Chronic Health Alterations  (9 Credits )  
Addresses physiological, psychological, ethical, cultural and developmental health issues to manage care of diverse clients with chronic illness across the lifespan. Topics include gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurologic, musculoskeletal, respiratory, renal, cardiovascular, reproductive, and hematology/immunology systems.
NUR 1520C  Mental Health Alterations  (3 Credits )  
Students integrate nursing theory; professional standards; legal and practice issues; communication; collaboration; critical thinking; and integrative health principles. Addresses psychological, ethical, cultural and developmental health issues to manage care of diverse clients with mental illness across the lifespan. Topics include therapeutic communication skills, pattern recognition of maladaptive behavior, psychodynamics, moral/legal/ethical dilemmas, Crisis Theory intervention, and group therapy.
NUR 2213C  Acute Health Alterations  (6 Credits )  
Addresses physiological, psychological, ethical, cultural and developmental health issues to manage care of diverse clients with acute illness across the life span. Topics include gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurologic, musculoskeletal, respiratory, renal, cardiovascular, reproductive, and hematology/immunology systems.
NUR 2214C  Critical Health Alterations  (6 Credits )  
Addresses physiological, psychological, ethical, cultural and developmental health issues to manage care of diverse clients with critical illness across the lifespan. Topics include gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurologic, musculoskeletal, respiratory, renal, cardiovascular, reproductive, and hematology/immunology systems.
NUR 2440C  Maternal/Child/Family Health Alterations  (3 Credits )  
Students integrate nursing theory; professional standards; legal and practice issues; communication; collaboration; critical thinking; and integrative health principles. Addresses physiological, psychological, ethical, cultural and developmental health issues to manage care of childbearing, infants, children through adolescence, and families with health alterations. Topics include growth and development; communication skills; childbirth; infant care; pediatrics; family integration; and moral dilemmas.
NUR 2463L  Maternal Child Health Clinical  (1 Credit )  
The clinical portion of this course will address nursing care of obstetric and pediatric patients. The primary focus will be on the nursing care of childbearing women and their families through all stages of pregnancy and childbirth as well as children from birth to adolescence.
NUR 2823  Management of Care II  (1 Credit )  
This course is a continuation of Management of Care I and focuses on the role of the Registered Nurse in delegation and supervision of client care. Students will discuss theories of team nursing and apply principles of prioritization of nursing care. The course will emphasize preparation of the student to function as a Registered Nurse and member of a health care delivery team.
NUR 2832L  Health Alterations Practicum  (3 Credits )  
Students demonstrate successful completion of Nursing Program Outcomes while working with multiple clients or a population typical of those which would be assigned to a beginning professional nurse.
NUR 2940L  Acute Care Clinical Practice  (2 Credits )  
Students demonstrate successful completion of Nursing Program Outcomes while working with acutely ill clients using lab/simulation/clinical settings.
NUR 2941L  Critical Care Clinical Practice  (1 Credit )  
Students demonstrate successful completion of Nursing Program Outcomes while working with critically ill clients using lab/simulation/clinical settings.
NUR 3125  Pathophysiology for Nursing Practice  (3 Credits )  
This course focuses on the basic concepts and processes of pathophysiology for common disease conditions. The content will build on earlier course work such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and nutrition. The mechanisms of underlying clinical manifestations, prevention, and treatments will be discussed.
NUR 3169  Evidence and Research in Nursing Practice  (3 Credits )  
This course focuses on the processes required to integrate evidence and research into nursing practice. The primary emphasis is on skills to evaluate scientific evidence for nurse-sensitive quality markers, so that students can utilize published healthcare research to influence practice.
NUR 3634C  Community and Public Health Nursing  (3 Credits )  
This course provides students the opportunity to assist culturally diverse populations within a community to achieve an optimum level of wellness. Concepts of community and public health nursing focus on the community as a client, and nursing interventions utilized across the lifespan. Special emphasis is placed on advanced theoretical concepts, related to health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention, and development processes.
NUR 3667  Diversity and Global Trends in Nursing  (3 Credits )  
This course contributes to the development of nursing competence toward a diverse population. Global approaches to healthcare will be examined to aid the nurse in the development of professional nursing practice. Key issues and trends related to selected national and global healthcare topics will be explored. Specific attention will be given to basic health beliefs of selected cultures, health disparities, and underserved populations both nationally and internationally.
NUR 3678  Nursing Care of Vulnerable Populations  (3 Credits )  
This course incorporates material from a multitude of cultures, illustrating at risk groups that are considered vulnerable populations. Key concepts, such as identification of at risk populations will be discussed and will provide a basic structure for nursing care of the vulnerable population. The relevance of nursing theories to vulnerable populations, nursing research showing the kinds of phenomena nurses study, and many ideologies related to advocacy of vulnerable individuals and/or populations will be included in this course.
NUR 3825  Professional Role Transition  (3 Credits )  
This course will explore the role expectation of the baccalaureate nurse, by integrating the professional standards, ethical principles, and management roles as they relate to critical thinking as part of the global perspectives of the healthcare delivery system.
NUR 3870  Informatics in Healthcare  (3 Credits )  
This course focuses on information technology and its usefulness to the professional nurse. The course explores emerging technologies, how they drive decision making in healthcare in tandem with the nursing process and critical thinking. There is an emphasis placed on the utilization of evidence-based technology usage to improve the patient care delivery and administrative processes.
NUR 4257  Critical Care Nursing  (3 Credits )  
This theoretical course focuses on synthesizing nursing knowledge and skills in caring for adult clients and their families impacted by critical illness. Topics include: Causes of single and multi-organ system dysfunction, the human responses to life-threatening illness, and palliative end-of-life care. Nursing care focusing on restoring physiologic and psychological stability to the severely ill client will be explored. The emphasis is on both pathophysiology and clinical management.
NUR 4286  Gerontological Nursing  (3 Credits )  
Physical, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual aspects of aging are examined within the context of the family and society. Theoretical concepts of aging will be examined using the nursing process. Unique health care needs of the older adult will also be presented, as well as an introduction to how baccalaureate nurses approach and manage those needs. Ethical/legal issues related to the nursing care of the older adults are analyzed.
NUR 4829  Leadership and Management in Nursing  (3 Credits )  
Leadership and management concepts used to address complex micro-system issues within selected healthcare organizations will be examined. Emphasis is on the application of advanced communication skills in collaboration with inter-professional team members. Additionally the student will focus on the interrelationship of selected team member roles, within the context of specific theoretical frameworks, and models of care.
NUR 4837  Health Care Policy and Economics in Nursing  (3 Credits )  
This course examines the foundations of health care policy that impacts nursing practice, and client care. Students will participate in a critical analysis of current legislative issues, economic constraints, and political controversies, that influence emerging trends in nursing practice, and health care systems. Course content will include an appraisal of the implications of policy and economics on issues of access, equity, affordability, health disparities, and social justice in health care. Students will gain knowledge that prepares them to assume leadership roles in health care policy development.
NUR 4945C  Nursing Capstone  (3 Credits )  
This course provides an experiential learning opportunity in select practice settings. The student will integrate nursing research knowledge, leadership, management, and nursing theories to design, implement, or lead a project, that will improve patient outcomes, and facilitate the transition to baccalaureate practice. This course requires students to complete a Capstone project with an approved clinical preceptor/partner. The student will also complete written assignments and activities related to his/her project. This course can only be taken during the last semester of the RN to BSN program. The Capstone project will be based on a mutual agreement between the student, faculty member, and the clinical preceptor/partner.
