RED 3012 Basic Foundations of Reading (3 Credits )
This course prepares teacher candidates for implementation of procedures, and current practices for teaching reading. Specific techniques and materials for word identification, content reading and comprehension are developed. Florida ESOL Performance Standards and Reading Endorsement Competencies have been infused within the objectives for this course. Course objectives and assignments are designed to prepare students for the Florida ESOL Endorsement and Florida Reading Endorsement.
RED 4519 Diagnostic and Corrective Reading Strategies (3 Credits )
This course has teacher candidates investigate the needs of individual learners in reading instruction. Students develop organizational techniques for promoting optimum reading growth in. Must have access to a K-6 student(s) to complete assignments.
RED 4942 Practicum for Assessment and Instruction of Reading (3 Credits )
This course is a supervised practicum that provides teacher candidates an opportunity to apply knowledge of reading assessment and instruction in order to increase reading proficiency of struggling readers. This course meets Florida Reading Endorsement Competency 5. The Reading Endorsement Competencies have been infused within the objectives of this course and assignments that are listed in this syllabus are required in order to prepare students for the Florida Reading Endorsement. Course objectives and assignments have also been designed to prepare students for the Florida ESOL Endorsement.
