Academic Advising

LSSC Academic Advisors work closely with students throughout their educational journey, providing support in areas such as:

  • Identifying possible academic, degree, and career options
  • Understanding and navigating the enrollment and registration process
  • Using online tools to obtain academic and transfer information
  • Reviewing academic program guidelines, progress, and graduation requirements
  • Recommending courses based in academic and career plans
  • Clarifying college procedures and guidelines associated with academics
  • Connecting students with other college services and resources

All students are assigned an academic advisor at the time of admission to Lake-Sumter. Academic advising is an essential support service that helps students navigate their educational journey and achieve their academic and career goals. At our college, academic advisors work closely with students to develop personalized academic plans, select appropriate courses, and ensure they meet graduation requirements. Advisors also provide guidance on major exploration, transfer opportunities, and other educational pathways. Regular meetings with an academic advisor are strongly encouraged to help students stay on track, make informed decisions, and fully utilize available resources. Whether students are just beginning their studies or preparing for transfer, academic advising is a valuable tool for success.

Academic advising is available by phone at 352-787-3747, in-person, or online by appointment. Additionally, drop-in advising is offered both in-person and online through the Virtual Enrollment Service Center, which serves as a one-stop shop for students across all campuses and online. For more details on hours of operation and advisor contact information, students should visit the Academic Advising webpage.

Academic Advisors track students' progress toward degree completion and provide ongoing support throughout each term, helping students plan for upcoming terms and stay on track for graduation. Final graduation audits are conducted by the Registrar's Office, and LSSC can verify a student's eligibility for graduation once the audit is complete. Since students are responsible for meeting graduation requirements, they are encouraged to regularly review their progress using their Degree Works audit through myLSSC and to meet with an academic advisor to ensure they are on course for successful degree completion.
