Academic Advising
LSSC Academic Advisors assist students with the following:
- Identifying possible academic, degree, and career options
- Understanding and navigating the enrollment and registration process
- Using online tools to obtain academic and transfer information
- Reviewing academic program guidelines, progress, and graduation requirements
- Recommending courses based in academic and career plans
- Clarifying college procedures and guidelines associated with academics
- Connecting students with other college services and resources
Advising is an engaging process between the advisor and the advisee where academic and career plans are discussed and aligned to appropriate course enrollment and degree planning. All new students have an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor as part of our New Student Advising & Registration (NSAR) sessions. Transfer students are encouraged to schedule an academic advising appointment for course planning and to discuss degree requirements. Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor each semester to ensure they are on track for graduation, and to explore opportunities at the College.
Academic advising is available by phone at 352-787-3747, in-person or online by appointment and on a drop-in basis in-person or online through the Enrollment Service Center. The Enrollment Service Center is a one-stop shop for students with availability through each of our campuses and online. Interested students may visit LSSC's Academic Advising webpage for more information regarding hours of operation and advisor contact information.
Academic Advisors monitor progress toward degree completion and provide follow-up communication throughout each term to provide support and make plans for upcoming terms in anticipation for graduation. Official and final graduation audits are completed by the Registrar's Office. LSSC can verify student eligibility for graduation after the final graduation audit is completed. Since students are responsible for fulfilling LSSC graduation requirements, students are encouraged to frequently review our online degree auditing platform, Degree Works, through myLSSC, and to meet with an academic advisor to track their progress to degree completion.
Academic Advisors strive to guide students toward their academic goals by providing information, references, and advice. All students are assigned an academic advisor and are able to schedule advising appointments in their myLSSC account. We also offer drop-in advising at each of our campuses for real-time support.
