Fee Deferment, Textbooks, and Materials
Florida law provides fee deferments for veterans and other eligible persons.
- Chapter 35/Dependents - A 60 day deferment is limited to one term per academic year. After the 60 days, the student is responsible for payment of all fees to LSSC.
- Chapters 33/Post-9/11 GI Bill® and 31/Vocational Rehabilitation are eligible for one 60 day deferment per semester. These students have their tuition and fees paid directly to LSSC and may receive a monthly housing allowance from VA.
- Chapter 31/Vocational Rehabilitation students are provided with funding for textbooks and required materials; all other students are responsible for textbooks and materials.
- All other VA Chapter students receive payments from VA and are responsible for paying their own tuition and fees after their initial deferment has been used for the year. LSSC’s Learning Centers provide a Lending Library service with some textbooks donated by fellow students.
In compliance with the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018, LSSC does not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or to require that a covered individual borrow additional funds due to the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs under Chapter 31 or 33.
